Join the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway as they welcome Thomas for a day of family fun. A ticket for Day Out With Thomas includes the train ride with Thomas as well as a variety of Thomas & Friends™ themed entertainment. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet The Fat Controller from the Island of Sodor.

Ride not only with Thomas the Tank Engine, but also behind other steam and diesel engines on the frequent trains between Cheltenham, Winchcombe and Toddington. Trains will run every 45 minutes with the first train at 0930 from Toddington and 0945 from Cheltenham Racecourse. Thomas the Tank Engine and Diesel will be busy operating trains between Toddington and Winchcombe, while Daisy and another of Thomas' friends operate between Winchcombe and Cheltenham Racecourse. There will be lots of fun and games for all the family at Winchcombe, including Thomas themed activities in the Imagination Station, Punch and Judy and magic shows, model railways and Thomas themed face painting.

Also come and meet The Fat Controller, as he makes sure all the engines are behaving themselves and not getting into any mischief! Why not also cheer on Thomas as he races with a Routemaster bus between Toddington and Winchcombe throughout the day.

The entrance price includes unlimited travel on trains during the day between Cheltenham, Winchcombe and Toddington stations passing through the second longest tunnel on a preserved railway. Your ticket also includes all of the additional attractions and rides including the narrow gauge railway at Toddington.

The Thomas experience starts at either Cheltenham Racecourse or Toddington stations which both have ample FREE CAR PARKING. It should be noted that Winchcombe station does not have any car parking facilities during Day out with Thomas events.

How to get here

Stations are located at Toddington (our main operating base), Winchcombe and Cheltenham Race Course station. Please note that there is ample parking at both Toddington and Cheltenham stations.

The GWR is based in the area known as the Cotswolds, and is not far from the town of Cheltenham and city of Gloucester. It is approximately 30 miles from Worcester, 45 miles from Birmingham, 50 miles from Bristol, and 15 miles from the picturesque town of Stow-on-the-Wold.


Toddington is currently the northern terminus of the GWR and is the ideal joining point for visitors from the Midlands, being just 15 minutes from Junction 9 of the M5. It is the administrative headquarters for the railway, the location of the main shop, the Flag and Whistle tea room and the GWR's locomotive department and sheds.

For those of you using Sat Navs the postcode for Toddington station is GL54 5DT.


There will be no car parking available at Winchcombe station for the Day out with Thomas events.


Please note no trains will call at Gotherington during the Day out with Thomas events.

Cheltenham Race Course Station

Cheltenham Race Course Station is the southern terminus of the GWR and is the most convenient joining point for visitors from Cheltenham, Gloucester and the south. The GWR's station is signposted from the main entrance to the racecourse where there is ample free parking. There is a GWR shop on the platform with lots of gifts for all ages.

For Sat Nav users the postcode of the racecourse is GL50 4SH.

Getting to the three GWR main stations using public transport. As always, you are advised to check with the transport operator before planning your journey.

Cheltenham Race Course

The nearest mainline railway station to the GWR is Cheltenham Spa. Stagecoach service D operates every 10 minutes from Monday to Saturday from the forecourt of Cheltenham Spa railway station, running to Cheltenham Race Course Park & Ride.

The Park & Ride is about a half a mile walk to the GWR Race Course station. The walk is along the race course internal road, and is sign-posted. Our booking office is at road level, whilst the platforms and main station buildings are reached by a slope. Visitors who prefer not to walk are advised to either use a taxi or to use Winchcombe or Toddington station instead.

On Sundays and Bank Holidays, Stagecoach service D operates half-hourly.


Winchcombe Station is situated in the village of Greet and is served by Castleways Monday to Saturdays. The buses depart from the Royal Well bus station, Cheltenham Spa. Passengers should get off at Harvest Home Public House in Greet or Becketts Lane stop,and walk back to Winchcombe Station, approximately 3 minutes away.


Toddington is served by the Castleways service from the Royal Well bus station, Cheltenham Spa, Mondays to Saturdays. There are about four buses a day to Toddington.
